Chapter 14 of the novel "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley portrays the death of Linda in the sixty-story high Hospital for the dying.

The unusual appearance of a visitor amazes the nurse when the Savage enters to assist his mother because no one in the New World cares about the dying people. She also can not understand why the Savage is so concerned when he finds his mother drugged up to the eyeballs with soma not able to communicate. After a while his grieving for Linda turns into beeing gutted by the reason that Linda is not remembering him. He thinks he is the person closest to her but Linda only seems to remember "Pope".
A few moments later Linda stops breathing and John starts to feel incredibly lonely. The only person who has ment anything to him has left which means he has to face tho world alone.
Soon a group of bokanovskyfied children enters the room astounded by the Savage´s behaviour. They sorround John´s mother beeing cheery and hilarious. John , who is missing the expacted respect, starts yelling at the nurse and pushing around the conditioned.
